Before I moved to Colorado, for seven years I was a news reporter in a
suburb of Grand Rapids, MI. Before that, I earned my living as an
artist, and I still write and still create art. I have been a social
worker for ten years, and have a BS degree in Art, English and
Education, from Western Michigan University, and have taught classes
part time, related to my degree, but wanted to be an artist and writer
more than to be a teacher.
My motivation for writing about health has to do with dealing with at least four different autoimmune diseases for the last 40 years. It seems I might have information which could be helpful to others. I don’t claim to be an expert, and I am certainly not a doctor, and I don’t want to advise anyone. But if others can learn from my experiences and studies, or from others and from each other by networking on health topics, it would be unfortunate not to participate by sharing.

I had Fibromyalgia at a time when no one had a name for the
condition. Finally, about 20 years after that, it was diagnosed, I fortunately
found a physician who referred me to another doctor who treated patients with
nutritional supplements. My own condition was so much improved with this
approach, that ever since, I have always been open to a nutritional solution to
a health problem. I have had several years of mostly normal living in spite of coping
with reduced symptoms of Fibromyalgia.
Nutrition has not been able to solve every health problem,
however. Sometimes stress or fatigue would trigger a relapse. Other autoimmune
conditions have appeared along the way in spite of my conscientious efforts to
do everything I should to be in great health. No one has all the answers yet,
it seems.
My personal approach is to find the best remedy I can find
for a condition, whether it comes from diet, nutritional supplements,
traditional
medicine, pharmaceuticals, over the counter medicines, or even surgery. I
hope to blog about all of these things, along with other
topics related to health. Also I plan to share book reports or
informational
resources as I encounter them, and to give attribution to my sources.
There is an ethical aspect to my writing. Anything I review, will be because I genuinely believe what I say, such as about a book, or a food, or a nutritional supplement. I will reveal my sources as much as possible. I have assimilated information over many years, trying to live a healthy life, and may no longer remember where the information came from, and cannot nail down the source. But if I do
say something positive about a book or source of information you may be absolutely sure it is because I have had a positive experience and want to share that information. I expect to allow limited advertising in the margins of my blog, but I will never be paid to endorse any product related to health.
I do hope to generate some interest and income from my art and writing, through links to other sites where those subjects will be displayed.
